What you need to know during your stay this Vivid Sydney season
With the help of our InterContinental Concierge team, we have compiled an overview of the need-to-know essentials and helpful information to ensure you spend more time exploring and less time worrying!
What is Vivid?
Vivid Sydney, is Australia's major event in winter and is recognised as the largest event of its kind in the world combining light, music and ideas. Now in its ninth year, Vivid Sydney expands throughout the precincts offering an eccentric path to illuminated icons, hidden laneways, and spectacular light activations.
How long does Vivid go for?
Vivid runs from the 26th May until the 17th June
What time does it start?
Lights On occurs at 6pm, and conclude at 11pm
Where is Vivid Sydney Held?
Vivid Sydney has activations at a number of locations across the city including: The Sydney Opera House, The Rocks, Martin Place, Darling Harbour, Chatswood, Carriageworks, Barangaroo (South), Kings Cross on Sydney Harbour , Taronga Zoo and the The Royal Botanic Garden.
Where is the best vantage point to view the lights?
Supper club within the hotel is open every night throughout VIVID from 8pm until late.
What happens if it rains?
The event will operate rain, hail or shine.
Why are there road closures in place?
Transport for New South Wales have introduced the road closures to enable visitors to safely access the sights and attractions around the Sydney CBD
What you need to know about road closures
Significant road closures and special event clearways will be in place throughout the Sydney CBD and The Rocks precincts.
Please see attached maps which detail clearways, road closures, taxi ranks and access for all public transport. The real-time trip planner will also provide you with updated transport information.
Stage One: For Monday to Wednesday 29-31 May, and Monday to Thursdays 1, 5-8 and 13-15 June, please see full map here for restricted areas.
Stage Two: For Friday 26 May, Friday 2 June, Friday 9 June and Friday 16 June, please see full map here for restricted areas. Also note that both Phillip and Macquarie Street will be closed from 5.00pm until Midnight which will mean that access to the hotel will be via the pedestrian entrance on the corner of Phillip and Bridge Street. Due to these road closures, the hotel carpark and driveway will not be accessible from 5pm to Midnight.
Stage Three: For Saturday 27 May, Saturday 3 June and Saturday 17 June, please see full map here for restricted areas. Phillip and Macquarie St will be closed from 4.00pm which again will mean that the hotel carpark and driveway will not be accessible and guests will need to enter the hotel via the pedestrian entrance on the corner of Phillip & Bridge Street.
Stage Four: For Sunday 28 May, Sunday 4 June and Monday 12 June, please see full map here for restricted areas. Phillip and Macquarie St will be closed from 4.00pm which again will mean that the hotel carpark and driveway will not be accessible and guests will need to enter the hotel via the pedestrian entrance on the corner of Phillip & Bridge Street.

What do I do if I can’t get my car out of the carpark?
Unfortunately it is out of the hotels area of control to be able to get your car out of the carpark as there are road closures in place.
Where am I supposed to park my car if I need to access it during the road closures?
Wilson Car Park – Governor Philip Tower - This carpark is located at 1 Farrer Place, Sydney which is an approximate three minute walk from the hotel however there is also vehicle access to this facility from 43 Phillip Street. The carpark is unmanned, however is accessible from 9am to 9pm on Friday, 9am to midnight on Saturday and 10am to midnight on Sunday.
Secure Parking - This carpark is located at 131 Macquarie Street, Sydney which is an approximate three minute walk from the hotel. The carpark is open from 7am until midnight on Fridays, 8am until midnight on Saturdays and between 9am and 5pm on Sundays.
These are both public carparks and fill up on a first come first served basis. We have no control of these parking facilities.
