The Eventful Life

As Opera Australia puts it, “A night at the opera is something worth sharing”, so in this spirit we are sharing our March highlights from their 2018 series.

La Boheme

Date: March 23 – April 22

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour has become known as a highlight of the Australian cultural calendar and was described as one of the top four opera open-air events in the world by Signature Luxury Travel and Style Magazine. This year Puccini’s beloved opera, La Bohème, calls its audience to Paris for a bohemian love story set beneath the stars.

The Miss behave Gameshow

When: 7 - 18 March

The star of La Soiree and London's reigning queen of cabaret, Amy Saunders, returns to Australia with her smash-hit show, sold out for seasons across the globe. We recommend you join Miss Behave and her sidekick Tiffany for a night of satire soaked in fun-filled acts, a variety of entertainment and guaranteed laughs - no night is the same but every night is guaranteed to be just as raucous and exciting as the last.

When: until 23 March

In the colourful streets of a colonial city, Carmen is a red hot spark, and this musical puts the sparkle in Sydney’s calendar with eye-popping sets, vibrant costumes and siren songs. From 2 March, Tahu Matheson takes over as conductor of this vibrant production of Bizet’s opera – think irresistible Spanish tunes and a plot that dances on the edge of danger.

Ai Weiwei

When: 15 March

One of the most iconic Chinese artists and activists of our time, Ai Weiwei launches the premiere of her awaited documentary, Human Flow, a powerful feature designed to communicate the scale and human impact of mass displacement. To commend this premiere, Ai Weiwei will be in conversation with the Artistic Director of the 21st Biennale of Sydney, Mami Kataoka, discussing everything from politics to personal matters.

All About Woman

When: March 4

For the sixth year running, Sydney Opera House's talks and ideas festival All About Women celebrates International Women's Day with a full day of topical discussions and events. The 2018 program is set to expand far beyond talks with live podcasts and workshops exploring the ability of food to bring like-minded people together.
