Tips for exploring Sydney during City2Surf this weekend

This weekend will see over 80,000 runners participating in the annual City2Surf 14-kilometre fun-run. The course stretches across the Harbour City, from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach via William Street, Bayswater Road, New South Head Road, Old South Head Road and Military Road, all the way to the finish line on Campbell Parade – so you’ll need to plan your trip before leaving the hotel! Luckily, our Concierge team are on hand to guide you with their top tips for avoiding traffic jams and sweaty joggers!

There’s no need to avoid the City entirely. Access to the City from South West and North West is absolutely fine, it is just the Eastern Access to the City that is effected by the fun-run.

But you should try to avoid certain areas. There are many road closures throughout Saturday morning with William Street and Park Street up there with the busiest and hardest to navigate. All traffic and transportation information can be found here.

Pick your picnic spot wisely. If you’re planning a picnic on Saturday morning, set your wicker basket down in either Royal Botanic Gardens or Barangaroo Reserve rather than Hyde Park. Unless of course you’re willing to run the risk of the City2Surf crowds sprinting through your gourmet spread!

Take to The Rocks. Smooth FM presents The Smooth Festival of Chocolate this weekend (12 August and 13 August between 10am and 6pm), which means an indulgent selection of irresistible desserts in over 90 market stalls. This Festival definitely puts a sweetener on road closures and traffic hurdles, you can find more information about the two-day event here.
