The Top Meetings and Events Trends for 2018

Sydney Meeting and Event trends for 2018
The Sydney Life
The Eventful Life

Rediscover the art of meeting this year with InterContinental Sydney’s 2018 trends. Our meetings and events professionals have come up with your guide to help transform everyday events into engaging, memorable and result-driven experiences.

Make it about the moments

Savvy hosts understand today’s guest is searching for moments, or rather micro moments they can share with their network across Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. The sharing of moments immortalises the event and creates momentum past the event itself.

Embrace this trend and integrate the creation and capture of micro moments throughout your event with a branded Snapchat geo-filter or a live Instagram video of an inspirational speaker. From venue, to cuisine, to live performances, strategically plan for micro-moments throughout your event and to give your guests incentive to capture and share them. Ensure all posts are grouped under your event hashtag so you can locate them easily and re-share them yourself.

It’s time to get Tech-riffic

It’s more important than ever to create engaging, tech-forward events.  Leverage technology to connect, plan, engage, inspire.  It’s a digital world and successful hosts push the envelope with great venues helping them do it – from infusing video content into your presentation to utilising strong AV solutions – take your event to the next level by getting tech-riffic.

Walk on the Wild Side

While technology has undoubtedly dominated meeting trends in recent years, savvy planners know to keep the top styles and design trends in mind for their events too. Recently, Vogue highlighted florals as a top trend that dominated 2018 preview runways. Sydney’s Vogue Fashion night out reflected this trend but it wasn’t your typical bouquet–– it was innovative and imaginative – reinventing the wilted traditions of floral décor.

That’s why we’ve created The Florist pop-up venue. Previously used as The Treasury Building’s florist shop, this hidden boutique venue once abundant with seasonal buds and bouquets now stays concealed behind cove-windows and heavy oak doors. You can gain sole-use of this venue and transform it into a haven of garden-inspired on-trend styling.

Innovative Catering

Think out of the box when it comes to meeting breaks or event canapes; we’re talking grazing tables, health-infused events and delegate masterclasses. Partner with your favourite dessert bar, infuse canapes with an Asian-inspired theme or weave a current food trend through your menu – give your guests a taste of what you (and your event) is about.

Immersive them in the magic

Build immersive experiences that truly connect your guests with your venue – and your vision. We saw great success in 2017 when Head of Pastry, Simon Veauvy, held a number of dessert masterclasses teaching delegates how to create his iconic Chocolate piñata – fun-filled, engaging and utterly delicious!

In 2018, event-planners will shift to a strong focus on the “why” in every meeting or conference. Inspire and immerse your delegates in an event that has a clear agenda, so that the moments (micro or macro) transcend well past the event itself.
